Dock Tales: The B Word & The Americans
You may be tired of hearing about trade deals and questions about who will be trading allies to the British post March 2019 but just look at what showed up on the dock today, the UK has just been invaded, do you like it ?
The future of the car market in England is under further review as it is likely that the cost of popular European cars will increase, not just based on the potential taxation and tariffs but also the price of the pound. As a result there could be more American and Asian cars added to the congested roads of the UK. This is no bad thing as there are plenty of colourful and interesting options from these continents and that is what makes cars exciting. If it wasn’t down to taste we would all, quite sensibly own golfs and be done with it.
Of course manufacturers are positioning themselves to be the post-March manufacturer of choice. Vauxhall are currently pitching a proud to be British banner with their adverts yet they are of course owned by American giants GM. They could be cheaper to own as some are manufactured in the UK at Ellesmere Port, but im not sure that they will see an increase as a result of a market squeeze. It’s the same with Jaguar, just the higher entry price is restrictive to the mass market. Imagine if Jaguar made a Golf. There are no other mass producers that are English registered and made onshore so Brits will more than likely be facing a price hike on new cars in some way or end up driving Morgans and TVR’s, now there’s a future worth subscribing to.
